Editorial Policy

GeisTrack writes about haunted buildings, UFO hotspots, abandoned towns, castles and other places where history and folklore sit side by side. That mix only works if readers can tell which part is which. This page explains how we handle it.
Facts and legends are kept apart
Documented history is written as history. Ghost stories, eyewitness reports and paranormal theories are clearly framed as what they are, with wording such as “according to local legend”, “visitors have reported” or “there is no confirmed evidence that”. We never present an unverified claim as an established fact, and we do not remove a good story just because it cannot be proven — the legend is often part of why a place matters.
How we research
Where possible we build factual sections from official attraction and museum websites, national heritage and tourism bodies, UNESCO listings, archives, archaeological reports and established historical writing. We paraphrase rather than copy, and we prefer to leave a detail out over guessing at it. If we cannot verify something, it does not appear as a fact.
Our verdicts
Every destination page carries a GeisTrack Verdict: a short, plain assessment of whether the place is worth the trip, who tends to enjoy it, and what to realistically expect. Sometimes the honest answer is that the story is better than the site itself, and we say so. Verdicts are editorial opinion, written from research rather than from personal visits — we never claim our team has been somewhere it has not.
Practical details change
Opening hours, ticket prices, access rules and tour availability change often, and some of these sites are seasonal, restricted or on private land. Treat the practical information here as a starting point and confirm anything important with the attraction or the relevant official source before you travel. Please respect closures, safety barriers and trespassing laws — especially at abandoned sites.
