This page is maintained by the owner of GeisTrack to explain what personal data the site handles and why. GeisTrack (geistrack.com) is a travel portal about mysterious, haunted and historic destinations. Questions? Email geistrack@norskwebservice.no.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups. Your email address, stored so we can send the GeisTrack newsletter. You can unsubscribe from any email.
- Destination suggestions. The name and any details you submit through the suggestion form, sent to our editorial inbox.
- Technical data. Standard server and browser data such as IP address, device type, browser and pages visited, used to keep the site secure and working.
- Cookies and similar technology. See our Cookie Policy.
We do not ask for sensitive personal data, and we do not sell your personal data.
Ratings, comments and moderation
You can rate a destination or leave a comment without an account. When you do, your browser stores a random identifier locally so we can recognise your own rating and let you change it, and so we can limit spam. That identifier is not linked to your name, email or location, is never shown publicly, and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser storage.
A name is optional on comments — leave it blank and your comment shows as “Anonymous Explorer”. Comments are reviewed before they appear, and reports you send about a comment are stored privately for that review. We never publish identifiers, reports or other moderation data.
Why we use it
- To deliver the newsletter you asked for (consent).
- To answer your messages and review destination suggestions (legitimate interest).
- To operate, secure and improve the site (legitimate interest).
- To show advertising and measure it (consent, where required).
Services we rely on
Some data is processed by third parties acting on our behalf or as independent controllers:
- Hosting, database, authentication and file storage for the site.
- MailerLite — newsletter delivery and subscriber management.
- Google AdSense — advertising shown on article and destination pages.
- Google Maps — the interactive world map.
- Travelpayouts partners (hotels, flights, transfers, car rental) — booking links.
These providers may process data outside your country. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Affiliate links
“Plan your visit” sections contain partner and affiliate links. If you book through them, the partner may set a cookie so a commission can be attributed to GeisTrack. This never changes the price you pay.
How long we keep data
Newsletter subscribers are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you. Form submissions are kept as long as they are editorially useful. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, object to or restrict processing, request a copy of your data, and withdraw consent at any time. Email geistrack@norskwebservice.no and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your national data protection authority (in Norway: Datatilsynet).
Children
GeisTrack is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top always shows the current version.
